Cancer Research Informatics Shared Resource Center (CRI SRF)

Overview of Services

The Markey Cancer Center (MCC) Cancer Research Informatics Shared Resource Facility (CRI) facilitates collaborative research among members of the MCC through the optimal application of informatics technologies and methods that maximize the accessibility and usability of data, information and knowledge. The primary goal of CRI is to provide comprehensive and centralized data acquisition and informatics support that is readily available to cancer center members.  Services include:

  • Custom database and software development.
  • Data warehousing.
  • Annotating and identifying human biospecimens.
  • Identifying patient cohorts for studies and recruitment.
  • High throughput computing.
  • Informatics consulting and grant preparation.

Begin Using CRI SRF Services

To start using CRI SRF services, you first need to register for an iLab account. This one-time registration will enable you to place service requests, provide required approvals, and monitor progress. Once your account has been accepted, assigned to a principal investigator and assigned a fund number, you can submit requests and/or place orders and schedule equipment time.

If you are a principal investigator, you may also receive email requests from researchers wishing to join your group. The request email will contain specific instructions on how to approve the request.

To register for an account:

  1. In the upper-right-hand corner of the screen, select the “Login” icon.
  2. Login using your institution credentials (if you are at the University of Kentucky, this is your LinkBlue ID and password). If you are not a UK MCC user and do not have an iLab account, you will need to register for an iLab account.
  3. Upon successful authentication, you will be prompted to select your PI/lab from the pull-down list and provide your phone number.
  4. Submit the completed registration form. Submission will notify your PI of your lab membership request.
  5. You will be sent an email with basic instructions on using the system at this time. However, you will not be able to place orders with your new account until your PI has approved your lab membership request.

Once your account is set up, if you have questions about creating a service request in iLab or using any of the iLab tools, please contact Justin Levens justin@kcr.uky.edu.

Acknowledging a Resource in Your Research

Markey Cancer Center shared resources are supported primarily by the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) from the National Cancer Institute (P30 CA177558). Additional support may be provided from other sources, such as chargeback systems, institutional funding and/or other grants. CCSG support allows our shared resource facilities to provide benefits to cancer center members, such as ensured access to services or subsidies to user rates.

Please use the following statement to acknowledge Markey Cancer Center Shared Resources in your research papers, publications and grant applications. (Note: Please also consider including the names of individuals from the shared resources if they provided any intellectual input or additional effort, in consultation with Markey Shared Resource directors.)

"This research was supported by the Cancer Research Informatics Shared Resource Facility of the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center (P30CA177558)."
